With a packed house of over 260 guests, the Big Fat Quiz of Myisrael raised an incredible £30,000 last night for small charities in Israel which are transforming the lives of people in desperate need.
With comedian Mark Maier at the mic, there were groans, tears and a number of fallouts as each team battled for quiz glory. With rounds ranging from The Best and Worst of 2016 to How Jewish are You, there was something for everyone. And with a £50 charitable fine for cheating, iPhones were refreshingly absent from sight. Huge congrats to Myisrael supporter Alexis Osen and her team who were crowned quiz champions.
Myisrael Founder and Executive Director, Danni Franks, reminded guests how the money raised on the night would make a meaningful difference to people in Israel, and she shared her experience of a recent visit to INTRA, a therapeutic riding school for children with emotional and physical difficulties.
She told the crowd "I recently had the privilege of meeting Tomer, a 10-year-old boy who had devastatingly been removed from his family having been found covered in cigarette burns. He now lives in a children's home and the highlight of his week is going to INTRA, one of Myisrael’s adopted charities. He rides a horse called Koko, mucks out his stables and grooms him. Koko is pretty much his best friend and when he gets on his horse, he feels like a king, he feels like he can do anything. He has learnt to care for another living being and it has been amazing for his development, helping him to build his first loving secure relationship. He told me it makes him feel like a whole person."
“This is why we do what we do. Myisrael is connecting amazing people in the UK with amazing people in Israel, and we are changing lives every day because of it.”
INTRA is just one of Myisrael's 16 under-the-radar charities which will benefit from the funds raised from Myisrael’s Biggest and Fattest Quiz Night ever. Thank you to everyone who supported, volunteered, and donated - you helped us make this event such a huge success.
